St. Mary's Church

F or many years German Catholics on the south side campaigned for a church of their own. St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, of imposing gothic design, was dedicated on November 30, 1868.

Look high above the front door and you will see in German "Sanncte Marienkirche" and 1867 - the date the church was built. The clock in the steeple chimes out the time, and the Angelus bells ring every day at noon and 6:00 p.m.

Following extensive restoration, including the original ceiling and frescos, the church was rededicated December 6, 1987. A tour of the beautiful interior can be arranged by calling the church office at 445-9668 to make an appointment.
